Application Form

Christopher Sims was a 1981 graduate of Herscher High School. He went on to become President of Power Logistics, Inc. an international corporation with facilities located in Europe, Central America, Canada, and throughout the United States. During his life-time, the Bonfield resident never forgot his “roots” and was continuously active in various community organizations and fund raisers that aided the needy and youth of the Kankakee County West area. He died December 9, 2002, at age thirty-nine.

Criteria for Selection:

Herscher High School Seniors who will be attending a state university within Illinois in the fall.

Awards will be determined by a selection committee based on the following Criteria.

1. Academic achievement as a pre-requisite but not necessarily a first priority.

2. Character

3. Citizenship

4. Financial need

5. School involvement

The selection committee will review all applications and narrow the field down to three to five finalists by April 1. Those finalists will then be asked to submit an essay on a topic selected by the scholarship committee. The finalists will write their essays in the computer lab during a single class period. Those essays will be submitted to the High School Principal by April 15 and he will forward them to the committee.

Each semester the successful applicant will be expected to successfully complete a course of study that will lead to a timely graduation from the university they are attending. They will be required to submit grades to the high school principal or his designee after each school term and receive approval before requesting subsequent funds from the Herscher Foundation. In addition, they will be expected to communicate in writing after each semester with Eleanor and Christine Sims regarding their progress.
