Response To Intervention

Jill Fulton:  RTI Coordinator

Response To Intervention (RTI) is a regular education initiative to increase student success in the curriculum and basic skills in reading and math. This initiative is the practice of:

  • Providing high quality instruction and interventions which match student need
  • Monitoring student progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instruction
  • Applying student response data to important educational decisions

How does Response to Intervention work in the Herscher School District?

Response to Intervention is a three Tier learning environment.

Tier I takes place in the classroom with the classroom teacher instructing students in the core curriculum.

Tier II takes place in an RTI classroom for thirty minutes with the RTI instructor and includes a small group of students focused on a common academic area of difficulty.

Tier III takes place in an RTI classroom and is an additional thirty minutes of focused academic instruction.

Student selection for inclusion in RTI is based on classroom performance, teacher input, and assessment data.

RTI Progress Monitoring takes place every week or every two weeks. The data generated from progress monitoring enables teachers to make accurate academic decisions on each student.

What can parents/guardians expect?

Students who are selected for RTI will have an academic plan noting the scientifically research based program.  Parents/guardians will receive a copy of the RTI plan.

Progress monitoring results will be sent to parents after each monitoring.

What is the goal?

Our goal is to give students what they need when they need it.  RTI consists of seamless movement between the Tiers to enable all learners to be successful.
