Physical Education – Athletic Training

Mr. Headrick – Mr. Palan – Mrs. Ratliff

Uniforms:

 

  1. Purchase from the High School Office-$15
  2. The uniform MUST be in original condition with your last name on shirt/shorts
    1. No rips, or cut offs

       3. Athletic Shoes are required (Does NOT include Crocs in sports-mode)

       4. Thick chained necklaces, dangling or large earrings, and any sharp jewelry must be taken off and left in the locker room.

       7.    Students must wear official AT/PE shirt as undermost apparel. Bottoms must be athletic-wear.

                        Clothing may be worn over uniform – underclothes must be approved by staff

       8.   Forgot your uniform…

a. Rental uniforms are available in the locker room. After the first week of the semester, you will need to have your own uniform and are allowed only 5 loaners a semester. After you loan for 5 days, it will be counted as a No Dress. See below.

           

            b.   Students that fail to dress or rent a uniform will be subject to the following school discipline:

 

1st offense – “zero” for the day

2nd offense- “zero” for the day, ASD, the teacher will contact a parent/guardian

3rd offense-  “zero” for the day, ASD, Asst. Principal contacts parent/guardian

4th offense- “zero” for the day, Friday detention, parental contact made by the Teacher and Asst. Principal

5th offense- “zero” for the day, Friday detention, the student will be withdrawn from the class, assigned Learning Lab, and given a “zero”

 

 

Tardy Policy:

1.   If you come into the locker room after the bell has rung, your tardy will be sent to the office.

            2.   If you are on time into the locker room, but are late getting outside, or to the gym, the tardy   

                  goes in the grade book. Locker room is locked during class.

a.   1 point is lost for the day in both cases.

 

Excuses from Participation:

1.         Parent or Guardian note:

a.   A note from home signed by a parent or guardian will be accepted for ONE day only. After that day, the note must be from a Doctor.

2.         Doctor’s note:

a.   A Doctor’s note must be taken to the school office at the beginning of the day if the student is to be out of PE class for more than 1 day.

b.   The student will go to Learning Lab for the number of days they are to miss PE.

            c.   A 1-page written summary of a Health or Fitness related article must be done for     

                   EACH day the student misses PE.

d.   The articles are due at the end of EACH day or you will receive a zero for the day.

 

 

If a student misses 9 weeks or more weeks they must complete 20 study hall assignments to receive credit for the class. The student will not receive a grade, only credit for the class. It will appear as an M on their report card for medical.

If the student misses less than 9 weeks their grade will be a combination of their grade in the class, and their grade for the 20 or fewer study hall assignments. Their report card will show their grade.

 

 

Grading Policy:                       

70 percent = Participation

5 Point Per Day

 

20 percent = Knowledge

Quizzes and/or Tests

 

10 percent = Skills

Skills Tests

 

  1. Students will be graded weekly (5 day weeks = 25 points, 4 day weeks = 20 points, ect)
  2. If students are absent, they have the option to make up the day by writing a 1-page paper on a fitness/health topic of their choice
    1. If students choose to not write a paper in place of their absence, the weekly grade will be based on their average score for the week
    2. Students will have 1 week after the grading week to turn in papers for any day they were absent
    3. Students cannot turn in papers to replace participation grade for days they are present

 

Miscellaneous….

  • If absent on the day of a written test or skills test, it is the student’s responsibility to make up the test before school, after school, or during learning lab. The grade will be posted as a 0 in the gradebook until it has been made up.
  • If a student has any health concerns related to fitness or exercising, the teacher should be notified. (e.g. asthma)
  • ALWAYS lock your belongings in your locker to avoid theft. Only use locker you are issued.
  • No SWEARING, HITTING, NAME CALLING, etc. (“play-fighting” included)
  • No food, open drinks, or gum in the locker room, gym, and weight room.
  • Cell phone use of any kind in the locker room, gym, and weight room is PROHIBITED. If caught, student will be given 1 warning and then after that warning, student will receive a referral
  • Before/after class time students must stay in the locker room. No waiting in the hallway or gym. No early departure!
  • Physical Education and Athletic Training is worth the same amount of credit towards a student’s GPA as any other class; therefore it is important that we test in a variety of ways, just as other classes would.
