Herscher School District Preschool Program

Herscher CUSD #2 Preschool Programs

The Herscher School District offers a grant/district funded preschool program to qualifying children.  All children must go through a screening in order to be considered for the program. Preschool Screenings are held once in the Spring and once in the Summer.  If you are interested in scheduling an appointment for screening, please call Melissa DeLong, Administrative Assistant, at 815-421-5023 or email delongm@hcusd2.org  Note:  if screenings are done for the year and the program is full, parents are always welcome to call and have their name and phone number put on a call back list.  This ensures that your child will be included in the next round of screenings or notified of any possible openings.

Preschool Screenings:  The district's preschool screening is a play-based screening that uses the DIAL 4 Preschool Assessment to measure your child's developmental progress.  During the screening, vision and hearing, language skills, motor skills and preschool concepts are evaluated.  The screening takes approximately one hour, after which the collected information is shared with the parent.

Age Limits for Preschool:  Children must be 3- or 4-years old on or before September 1st to qualify for preschool. If your child will be 5-years old on or before September 1st, they are eligible for Kindergarten.  Please check back to this website in early Spring to sign up for the Parent Cafe, the district's Kindergarten orientation.

Program Information:  The program consists of 3 preschool classrooms:  1 Head Start room at Bonfield Grade School, 1 Preschool For All room at Bonfield Grade School and 1 Preschool For All room at Herscher Intermediate School.  The programs run a full-day from 8:00 AM - 3:05 PM and follow the school district calendar for grades Kindergarten-12th (174 days). Transportation, hot lunch and supplies are provided by the program and there are no registration fees. Class sizes are mandated by the State of Illinois and must always maintain 20 qualifying students per classroom.  All preschool classrooms have 1 certified Early Childhood Teacher and at least 1 certified Paraprofessional.

For any other information or questions, please call Melissa at 815-421-5023.

Herscher CUSD #2 residents only, please.  Proof of residency will be required prior to preschool entrance.
